Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health offers a comprehensive breast program accredited by the National Accreditation for Breast Centers (NAPBC), and the American College of Radiology (ACR) as a Breast Center of Excellence. In addition to quality, we strive to provide compassionate, convenient, and accessible breast health care to the Upstate. It is this combination that makes the Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health a reputable community partner in the fight against breast cancer. The services we provide continue to be very comprehensive in nature. This means we do not stop providing care when a screening mammogram is positive. Our multidisciplinary team offers a complete array of services that begins with education and mammography screening. As further needs are identified, we provide diagnostic breast MRIs, and stereotactic or ultrasound biopsies. Patients who are identified with breast disease are supported by a broad breast health navigation program. This program makes available Breast Health Navigators who offer emotional support, and equip the patient with the knowledge they need regarding their testing and treatment going forward. This includes breast surgery navigation as well as adjuvant treatment navigation.
As a part of our outreach the Pearlie Harris Center continues to provide mobile mammography screening to identify individuals within the community who may have breast disease. Much of this population would almost certainly not have access to breast health care without the mobile mammography program. In addition to the mission work, the program is currently expanding to serve women who are unable to take off from work to obtain a mammogram. This is accomplished through the mobile unit’s availability at corporate or manufacturing work sites, where a woman can then obtain a mammogram without ever leaving the workplace. Making the mammography screenings and follow up testing available free of charge to the identified populations will increase early detection of breast disease and will ultimately result in improved survival rates. By delivering comprehensive quality breast health care, the Pearlie Harris Center will be able to help bring about positive changes in the overall health of South Carolinians.
