October 9, 2012 – SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Go Daddy is pulling out all the stops to help the National Breast Cancer Foundation spread awareness and “drive” positive change with Go Daddy Girl Danica Patrick behind the wheel. The diverse effort is aimed at battling the second leading cause of death in women … breast cancer.
Go Daddy is donating money, encouraging customer contributions, offering specialized “care packages” and raising awareness at one of America’s premier sporting events, a NASCAR race. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Danica swaps her trademark Go Daddy green for a pink firesuit and a bright pink edition of the GoDaddy.com No. 7 Chevrolet for Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide race in Charlotte.
“It’s time to kick breast cancer’s butt,” Danica said. “So many women and their families have been impacted by breast cancer … if we all work together, we can definitely help find a cure sooner, rather than later. It’s awesome to see Go Daddy go all out with their support on so many levels – for giving the National Breast Cancer Foundation the NASCAR spotlight.”
In addition to putting the pink display of support on the race track, Go Daddy, and tech industry partner Public Interest Registry, the not-for-profit operator of the .ORG domain, are set to present a $50,000 check to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Friday.
The NBCF is also being included in Go Daddy’s on-going charitable effort known as the “Round Up for Charity” program, which allows customers to round up their Go Daddy purchases to the nearest dollar for charity. Already, after just three weeks, the NBCF has become a customer-favorite, raising more than $8,750 in customer donations – which is significant considering donations come at less than one dollar each.
“Go Daddy’s Round Up program proves how a little pocket-change can make a significant difference,” said Go Daddy Marketing Vice President Teri D’Hooge, who is helping a family member of her own battle breast cancer. “I’m proud to work at a company that doesn’t just ‘cut a check’ and call it done, but is willing to truly commit to the cause with a diversified approach.”
Go Daddy is pitching in to help families affected by breast cancer communicate more efficiently, especially important in light of a recent study revealing women with breast cancer are more likely to survive if they have a strong support system in the first year after diagnosis. The Go Daddy “Care Package” gives customers a way to quickly and easily tell their story with a custom website. The package includes a domain name, website with a custom journaling template and fundraising and guestbook apps, as well as hosting. Go Daddy is donating five-dollars to the NBCF for every package purchased.
“A journal can be very therapeutic for women dealing with breast cancer, having an online journal or website is really helpful given so many families live far apart these days,” said NBCF Founder and CEO Janelle Hail. “Go Daddy is the kind of corporate sponsor we love to work with because they take such a comprehensive approach … it truly is like having a partner and not just a sponsor.”
