The Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska (BCDC) was founded in Fairbanks in 1976. It was located, in our humble beginnings, at 1001 Noble Street in a basement space donated by the Alaska National Bank of the North. BCDC is a 501c3 non-profit organization with an eleven member governing board and a ten person staff who are guided by the mission to increase awareness of the survivability of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection by delivering breast cancer screening services and educational programs throughout the state of Alaska. Today BCDC operates with a budget of $1.69 million that is funded primarily by philanthropy and payment for services. BCDC accepts insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, self-pay, and provides services regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. Since 1996 BCDC has been located at 1905 Cowles Street, a facility which BCDC has owned since 2006.
