Farmers Union Industries (FUI), along with Artex Manufacturing, is proud to announce the sale of their “Spreading Awareness” pink spreader resulting in a $50,000 donation to National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

Dan Hildebrandt, President and CEO of Farmers Union Industries, will present the donation comprised of total proceeds for the sale of their pink spreader to NBCF on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Circle Y Farm in Rich Hill, MO.

Hildebrandt said, “This would not have been possible without the support from the owners of FUI – the Farmers Unions of Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Montana. For generations, the Farmers Union has lent a hand to various causes through legislation, education, and philanthropy. We are thankful for the opportunity to work with NBCF and to help make a difference in the lives of our communities and our country. To all whose lives have been affected by this disease, personally or through that of a loved one, we want you to know we see you, support you, and rally behind you.”

For Christmas, Artex Manufacturing distributed framed photos of the pink spreader to their dealers. A sales representative from Hood and Company sent a snapshot of the framed photo to his mother, a nurse at a breast cancer treatment center in Missouri, who had survived her own battle with the disease not long ago. There, it caught the attention of Rhonda Yarick, a Stage 4 breast cancer patient. It just so happens Rhonda’s husband, Steve, is a cattle and crop farmer with three smaller spreaders of his own.

Not knowing much about Artex, he looked into the purchase of the pink unit in homage to his wife and her current battle. After speaking with the dealer, he took the plunge and purchased the pink spreader to put to use on his farming operation. The new unit will take the place of three smaller spreaders he used for spreading lime. Farmers Union Industries is so humbled to see the impact this unit and project has had on the Yarick family, as well as others fighting breast cancer.

Doug Sombke, Farmers Union Enterprises President, said “It’s important we take care of each other, that’s what Farmers Unions are about. Breast cancer is something that touches all of us; we have board members who’ve lost family to breast cancer. Any way the Farmers Union can bring this to the surface and make it more noticeable, whether it’s highlighting the importance of annual checkups or funding research, we want to take part. The strides they’ve already made with research are huge. We can beat this, this project falls right into the wheelhouse of the Farmers Unions – caring for each other and our communities and touching people’s lives.”
